BUTOH

Butoh dance engages our internal landscape in authentic movement. We will use concepts and sounds that guide our dance often in ways that challenge who we are and encourage re-patterning. Moving through difficulties or blockages can offer a wider range of expression. I take a gentler approach to Butoh that follows lineages of Vangeline, Diego Pinon, and Yumiko Yoshioka and incorporates Body-Mind Centering techniques that ground us in our anatomy. This practice engages the importance of community to understand ourselves. We practice performing for each other to build trust and openness with acceptance and appreciation for each dance as a unique gift.

VOCAL ENSEMBLE

Creative vocal exercises introduced provide experiential anatomy awareness with an understanding of how we relate to our sound. We explore the emotional quality of our voice, the areas of our body we feel comfortable initiating sound from and what sounds we are attracted to. We improvise scores that resonate with the uniqueness of who we are and what stories we have to tell. Our group may enjoy holding drones and lightly harmonizing with each other or using loud operatic tones or intricate melodies. Our composition depends on the desires and beauty that each person has to share.
